Getting thereAbout 2.5 hours southwest of Santiago International Airport (SCL) via Route 78 and G-80-I. A car is necessary for gear; free parking along the unpaved coastal dirt flats in front of the main beach and the Hotel Surazo zone. The village beach parking bays give easy access to the main sandy entry points.
HazardsAn elite wave-riding spot with a real, ice-cold Pacific shorebreak, strong lateral current, and sharp rocky outcrops flanking the southern point. True beginners should avoid this entirely — immediate deep water, fast-breaking waves, and a cross-offshore wind angle near the cliffs that complicates self-rescue.
Best time of dayAfternoon, October-March, when the Humboldt current system combines with inland thermal heating for a powerful, consistent SW wind. Increases post-midday and blows until sunset, smoothing out the rolling swell faces.
