Getting thereFly into Caen-Carpiquet Airport (CFR) and drive north for approximately 30 minutes, as a car is essential to transport gear. Park at the dedicated beachfront parking lot (Parking bord de mer) right on the seawall, which is free but fills up rapidly during peak weekend summer hours. The optimal access point is directly by the Voiles de Nacre sailing club center on Place du 6 Juin.
HazardsThe prominent hazard here is the massive exposed rocky reef directly in front of the beach, which is completely uncovered at low tide and requires walking your gear far out. Beginners must be extremely cautious due to these slippery, sharp rocks and the absence of dedicated public rescue services when the sailing club is closed. Locally, launching is restricted or prohibited inside designated summer swimming zones.
Best time of dayThe best time to ride is mid-to-high tide when water covers the sharp rocks, but before full high tide when the shorebreak slams against the hard stone seawall. Ideal conditions happen in the afternoon during spring and summer as the thermal sea breeze locks in from the northeast or northwest, the dominant onshore directions on this stretch of the Bay of the Seine.
