Getting thereIllawarra region, about 1.5 hours south of Sydney via the Princes Motorway (M1). A car is necessary for gear; free parking at Windang Foreshore Park or Reddall Reserve. Shallow sand flats near the Windang bridge or the open grassy point at Purry Burry are the best entry points.
HazardsExtensive shallow sandbanks and weed beds can catch long fins or hydrofoil masts. Stay well clear of the narrow ocean channel inlet โ genuine tidal rip risk there โ and watch for local fishermen, oyster shells, and strict bird sanctuary zoning.
Best time of dayAfternoon, when the standard summer NE sea breeze fills in reliably across the flat lake. Arriving after 1pm ensures the thermal has stabilized across the shallow basins.
