Getting thereSouthern Sydney, about 30 minutes south of Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport (SYD) via the Princes Highway and Captain Cook Drive. A car is needed for the peninsula; free parking along the Prince Charles Parade beachfront. The beach near Bonna Point Reserve is the primary access.
HazardsKurnell is a genuinely well-established, popular kite spot — confirmed directly, not just Botany Bay's overflow — working best in NE wind, less gusty than the airport side of the bay. Worth being precise about the actual restriction here rather than a general warning: there's a real no-anchoring zone protecting seagrass rehabilitation off Kurnell specifically (an environmental protection, not a security exclusion), separate from the genuine kiting exclusion zone that exists near Sydney Airport on the opposite side of the bay. Watch for tidal current through the Botany Bay mouth and hidden stone groynes.
Best time of dayAfternoon, October-March, when the regional NE sea breeze gets thermally accelerated along the NSW coast. Post-midday gives steady onshore/side-onshore conditions past the light, unpredictable morning breeze.
