Getting thereFlorida Keys, roughly 1.5 hours south of Miami International Airport via the Overseas Highway (Route 1). A car is essential; parking at Anne's Beach (Mile Marker 73.5) fills fast on weekends. Anne's Beach has the best public shallow-water access on the ocean side.
HazardsThe launch is tightly bordered by dense mangroves, boardwalks, and shallow fossilized coral rock flats. Real proficiency in tight-space kite control matters here — dragging into the mangroves or hitting the shallow limestone bottom can cause immediate injury or gear damage.
Best time of dayMidday to afternoon, when local thermal heating stabilizes the Atlantic trades or incoming frontal systems. Riding around high tide matters for twintip and foil riders to avoid the shallow oolitic bedrock.
