Good to know

Getting thereNorthern Gold Coast, about 45 minutes south of Brisbane Airport (BNE) via the Pacific Motorway (M1). A car is needed; free parking at Ian Dipple Lagoon or Shearwater Park along Marine Parade. The sandy spit near Main Beach gives the cleanest access.
HazardsA genuinely high-traffic marine thoroughfare packed with speedboats, jet skis, jet-boating tours, and local ferries. Solid upwind riding skills matter to navigate between active sandbar channels, stay clear of swimming enclosures, and handle real tidal current.
Best time of dayAfternoon, when prevailing SE trades or summer NE sea breezes get a thermal boost along the Queensland coast. Early afternoon has the most reliable wind and lets you clear the channels before peak weekend boat traffic returns.
