Good to know

Getting thereNear Rainbow Beach โ€” a genuine 3-hour drive north of Brisbane Airport (BNE), ending in a mandatory 4x4 beach drive along Great Sandy Marine Park sand tracks. A high-clearance 4x4 with a valid park permit is completely mandatory; free parking directly on the hard sand flats near the point.
HazardsA genuinely extreme tidal range, shifting sandbars, and no localized rescue infrastructure or phone signal given the remote isolation. Watch for hidden rock shelves close to the point, and stay alert to high-speed 4x4 tourist traffic along the active launch sand lanes.
Best time of dayAfternoon, September-March, when prevailing SE trades or summer NE sea breezes get a thermal boost along the Queensland coast. Time sessions with a rising mid-tide for deep, flat water over the inside safety sandbars.
