A long, near-empty beach 20km up the coast from Tarifa, backed by dunes and the Roman ruins of Baelo Claudia — the Poniente blows here almost as cleanly as in town but noticeably softer than Tarifa's Levante, making it the spot locals suggest when Tarifa itself is overpowered.

Getting thereAbout 20 minutes northwest of Tarifa along the N-340, turning onto the narrow mountain road CA-8202. A car is completely mandatory for this rural bay; free and paid dirt parking directly behind the Roman ruins of Baelo Claudia. The wide beach near the massive pine dune is the primary launch.
HazardsHighly complex mountain topography causes real, sudden wind shifts and gust pockets close to shore. Avoid this entirely during hard easterly Levante cycles — wind blows violently side-offshore, the bay has hidden rocky reefs, and there are genuinely no rescue boats available here at all.
Best time of dayAfternoon, spring through early autumn, when Levante gets heavily compressed and thermally accelerated through the high valley gaps. Early afternoon is most reliable before mountain thermal drawing turns the breeze gusty near shore.
