Good to know

Getting thereLocated at the mouth of the Volta River, roughly a 2-hour drive east of Kotoka International Airport (ACC) in Accra via the N1 highway. A car is essential to reach the spot, with free public parking available on the grass and sand flats near the local estuary resorts. The flat sandy spits inside the river estuary mouth offer the best, most direct launching points.
HazardsThe meeting point of the massive Volta River and the Atlantic Ocean creates incredibly violent, treacherous undercurrents and massive sandbar breaking waves. True beginners must strictly stay inside the flat, shallow sand pools on the protected lagoon side of the spit and never venture out into the main river channel or the open sea.
Best time of dayAfternoon, when the standard tropical sea breeze combines with the thermal draw of the river valley to deliver stable onshore conditions. Coordinating your session with a rising mid-tide is ideal to maximize water depth over the inside safety sand flats.
