What this site stores on your device
Your favorite spots, your unit preference (knots/mph/km-h), and your cookie choice are saved in your browser's local storage. This data stays on your device and is never sent to us.
Accounts, and the iOS & Garmin watch apps
If you sign in (Apple, Google, or email), we store your name, email address, and whatever profile fields you choose to add — country, weight, gender, a profile photo, and your kite/wing quiver. None of this is required to use the site's forecasts, and any of it can be left blank.
On the watch itself, no account or sign-in is needed — recording a session works standalone, using your watch's own GPS to track position, speed, and timing for the length of the session. That data stays on the watch (and then your phone, once synced) until you choose to upload it — nothing is sent automatically. To upload a session to windygalaxy.com, you'll need to sign in first.
An uploaded session is stored under your account and defaults to private — a GPS track can reveal exactly where you launch from, so it's only visible to other people if you switch that session (or your default) to "Shared." You can delete an uploaded session at any time, or delete your account entirely, which removes your profile and session data.
Cookies & analytics
If you accept cookies, we use Google Analytics to understand overall site usage (pages viewed, general location, device type). If advertising is enabled, Google AdSense may also set cookies to serve and measure ads. You can decline these in the cookie banner, and change your mind later by clearing your browser's site data.
Third-party services
Wind forecasts are requested from Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com) using only the coordinates of the spot you select — no personal data is sent. Map tiles are served by CARTO and OpenStreetMap. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts. Each of these services may log standard technical data such as your IP address, as any web request does.
Children's privacy
This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
